A step in the right direction

For enrollment into basic school in our project, every beneficiary must go through our pre-school classes programme. During this time, beneficiaries are taught about punctuality, cleanliness, discipline and of course basic literacy and arithmetic skills.
For over 10 months, these young ones who were once in street situations and denied access to education have shown commitment to their own pathway of growth and development.
We are glad that 19 of our beneficiaries have passed through pre-school classes successfully and are ready for onward admission into formal basic schools.

Light at the end of the tunnel; enrolment of 2019 beneficiaries into basic school

After 2 long years of Pre-school classes at our First Contact Place (FCP), we achieved success with our beneficiaries in enrolling them into Formal Basic School. The former street connected children were identified and introduced into our Education sponsorship programme in 2019. Usually, pre-school classes should last between 6 – 12 months. Unfortunately, the COVID 19 pandemic caused us to extend it to 2021.

Out of the 14 beneficiaries who signed up for the sponsorship programme, 11 beneficiaries have been enrolled into basic school across our Centres in Ashaiman and Ayikuma. They were progressive in their development in academic, social and moral life. We hold in high esteem these values since we believe these values would go a long to shape, define and make our beneficiaries independent and contributing members of our Society.

A wonderful day at the Boti Falls

On Saturday, the 16th of March 2019, the beneficiaries and staff of WEM Centre embarked on an excursion to the Boti Falls in the Eastern Region. Together with some friends of the organisation and three of our German volunteers we started our trip early in the morning with a lot of positive energy.

We carried along a lot of delicious foods and drinks to enjoy our excursion in every possible way. After about 90 minutes’ drive, we arrived safely at the Boti Falls and started our tour with an introduction by a guide.

In order to see the beauty of Boti, we had a 45-minute walk ahead of us which was not easy because the path was hilly. By assisting each other, we were able to make it safely and enjoy all the breath-taking parts of Boti, such as “the Umbrella Rock” or “the Three-Headed Palm Tree”. After this long and exhausting hike, we visited the final part which is the actual “Boti Falls” and rested at this beautiful nature’s sight. The beneficiaries had a good time swimming, singing and dancing.

Such excursions are of major importance to the support for our beneficiaries because during such memorable days, they get to see what our organisation is all about and that the benefit of our children is our priority.

A big “thank you” to all who helped to organise this marvellous trip that will be remembered by all of us for a long time.

A truly wonderful ending to 2018

On Saturday, the 15th of December, the “Rays of Hope” – family celebrated our annual end of the year – 2018 program at the WEM Centre, Ayikuma. As a family beneficiaries and staffs from both Centres joined for the celebration.

Furthermore, we were accompanied by members of OLA, Gyassie Foundation and Accra Academy/St Mary’s Girls old students 2008 (Acasma 08).

Together as a big group, we enjoyed a colourful program including a lot of dancing, singing and games, as well as celebrating the upcoming Christmas time. The aspect of having a very good time was the initial reason for this program and because of that, we were able to feel the positive spirit all over the big compound.

Happenings like this are very important to the development of our beneficiaries because it offers them a fun – time they can spend together with all the other beneficiaries to build and strengthen friendships.

Moreover, programs like ours give the beneficiaries an experience where joy, fun and peaceful company is in their focus, instead of the daily challenges of the street life.

Days like this one are literally a ray of hope in their lives and create a lot of beautiful memories.

Especially for the new beneficiaries who just joined our ROHC in September, this day had a great influence on their view on our organisation. It showed them the variety of positive aspects our organisation offers them besides the academic aspect, so that they develop a strong and long-lasting relationship with us.

We had a great time at Ayikuma with a lot of great people and keep this wonderful memory within us for a long time.

We want to send special thanks to all the members of OLA, Gyassie Foundation and Acasma 08 for the wonderful love and support showed in their various donations.

Your generosity will be remembered, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
